The area known as Barrio de Salamanca, where the Hotel Wellington is located, is one of the most exclusive in Madrid; it is home to some of its most luxurious establishments, as well as famous streets including Calle Serrano, Calle Goya, and Calle Velázquez.

The epicenter of the area, known as the "Milla de Oro" (Golden Mile), lies at the junction of Calle Serrano, Calle Ortega, and Calle Gasset. This famous zone, which is barely one square kilometer in size, is so called because of the many leading international fashion and jewellery outlets that are located here.

It is a veritable paradise for shoppers, and has deservedly become the most chic and elegant district in Madrid. Visitors can browse the most prestigious international names and the most exclusive Spanish fashion boutiques. Even if you are not shopping, a stroll around the streets to admire and enjoy the area is highly recommended.
